So would look like I got caught being a goon a few weeks back when I went to the iTunes festival to see Goldfrapp and Marina & the Diamonds. Excuse the fact that when I am nervous I wobble around and hide behind my fringe.

This summer has been pretty manic. I have spent a vast majority of it working myself hard so that I can then party even harder at numerous festivals and gigs. Marina was one of these, but also I attended Lovebox, Camden Crawl, 1234 and a few other things. It has been great. Favourite tunes are below!

Marina & the Diamonds

This video is IMMENSE. Love it. Love them. Enjoy!

I spend a vast amount of time browsing sneak peeks of people’s homes and dreaming of how I would spend the time in the spaces if they were mine. I have already shared the beauty of the Brooklyn Clock Tower Penthouse which blew me away. I can often be found snooping around The Selby, and the sneak peeks on Design Sponge* where I actually found this little beauty of a place: Asia Gwis‘s restoration project in Poland.

I love that this place was found the countryside of Poland and transported to Warsaw to be restored and built into a lovely home. The colour scheme is so clean and fresh. The shots of red wires throughout are delicious and then equally I adore the idea of mismatched furniture in particular with the chairs around all tables. Can not fault the Eames chair.

Head to Design Sponge* to find out more!

Now I’m not one for pigeon-holing myself with music so please do embrace the fact that sometimes I will sway all over the place with what I like. SO baring this in mind I am going to just express how the above is an absolutely amazing piece of music video/mini-film starring Lady Gaga and Beyoncé for their new track Telephone. Written by Lady Gaga and Jonas Åkerlund this is a Bonnie and Clyde story with a twist of Kill Bill (hello Pussy Wagon?!), and a pinch of any of your favourite glitzy musicals. Its visually awesome, the sets, the costumes, the dancing. Its pretty darn cool though it is super odd but thats what makes it allso the more engaging. So if you have a spare 10 minutes give this a watch.

Then when you are done I want a list of all the products you have spotted. Thanks!

Living in a city where gigs for the next-big-things are as popular as those for the major players its interesting to see the more renegade styles that crop up. Some can be simply scribbles of names on a piece of paper, others are beautifully drawn and designed. So I thought that it was time to translate my musical love into a bit of delicious design appreciation. Gig posters are to me what movie posters are to film buffs, there are the rare and saught after, the ones that mean something to you because you were there, and then the ones that even if you have no idea who the band are you just love how it looks. Sites like gigposters.com and flickr’s gig poster pool are both excellent sources to find both well known talents as well as hidden gems.

I would say that my first serious dabbling in the gig poster world came from me prowling around for images of my favourite bands one day. I was desperately seeking inspiration for a music design project and was hunting for Death Cab pieces (having been listening to Transatlanticism solidly) when I came across Jason Munn aka The Small Stakes. Its been love ever since. I was actually bought the above Death Cab poster for my 21st birthday and I have to say its probably my favourite print to date.

Alongside that another favourite would be Daniel Danger, his style is rather different to that of Jason, with his strong illustrative style making reference to ghost stories and dreamscapes. I would say that on screen you would never be able to fully appreciate the attention to detail that is put into his work. I have two print of his that both have such vibrancy despite the overall darkness. He manages to balance the black so well with his use of colour. His site is a gem of beautiful pieces but in particular I do think that the spirit of his gig posters are something that aren’t achieved by anyone else I have found so far.
